The Grade R Project 2027

Grade R for All, Ready to Build.

Building on nearly two decades of trusted early childhood education in Hout Bay.

The need is real

Grade R is essential, but access is not always available.

When school placement outcomes were released, only a handful of families received the outcome they had hoped for. Across the Western Cape, many families struggle to secure appropriate Grade R placements.

Many local families cannot afford private Grade R, yet government placements remain limited and highly competitive.

Thousands of children. One community. One opportunity to make a difference.

Why Grade R matters

The bridge between early childhood and formal education.

Grade R lays the foundations children carry with them for the rest of their schooling, and their lives.

  • Literacy foundations

  • Numeracy skills

  • Social development

  • Independence & confidence

  • Emotional resilience

  • School readiness

The space is already here

Building on what already works.

Rather than buying new land, the Grade R classroom will be integrated into the existing, established campus, building on nearly two decades of experience and community trust. It will sit adjacent to the current school building for a seamless transition between preschool and Grade R.

Existing campus Adjacent to the school

“The foundations already exist. We are simply creating the next step in a child’s educational journey.”

From forgotten space to learning place

A shaded corner, waiting to become something special.

An unused, shaded corner of the campus, currently storage and overflow, will become a dedicated Grade R environment under mature trees.

The trees cannot be recreated. The shade cannot be manufactured. The beauty already exists.

A playground designed for learning

Where every corner teaches something.

Children learn best through active, hands-on experiences, extending learning beyond the classroom walls.

  • Living Wall

A growing, green vertical garden the children tend.

  • Water Play Area

Hands-on discovery through flow, pour and splash.

  • Sandpit

    Digging, building and imaginative play.

  • Swing Area

    Movement, balance and joyful energy.

  • Grass Hill

    Rolling, climbing and gross-motor adventure.

  • Natural Shade

Cool, calm learning beneath mature trees.
