Learning Through Play

Preparing children not only for Grade 1, but for a lifelong love of learning.

The Grade R programme follows the South African CAPS curriculum while keeping the play-based, child-centred philosophy that has guided the school since 2007.

Learning areas

Five foundations for confident learners.

  • Language & Literacy

    Storytelling, rhyme, vocabulary and early reading, building the foundations for a lifelong love of books and communication.

  • Early Mathematics

    Counting, patterns, shapes and problem-solving through hands-on, playful exploration of numbers and space.

  • Creative Arts

    Painting, music, movement and imaginative play that nurture self-expression, creativity and confidence.

  • Life Skills

    Independence, routines, kindness and care for one another, the everyday skills that help children thrive.

  • Physical Development

    Gross and fine motor skills through outdoor play, movement and active, hands-on learning.

A class of 25–30 children, supported by a dedicated teacher and teaching assistants in a nurturing, child-centred environment.
